To the Lighthouse

To the Lighthouse - Virginia Woolf I really enjoyed this book.
It's true that Virginia Woolf's writing style is sometimes a little hard and confusing, It required me to read and re-read several parts to understand, but very deep and enjoyable when I started to get it.
there is no plot to this story, it is simply a look inside the minds of the characters and their judgments of themselves and those around them.
it is a very unique read, I highly recommend it.

Fahrenheit 451

Fahrenheit 451 - Ray Bradbury that was an Amazing incredible read.
In a future America, books are banned and "firemen" burn any that are found.
Media took over, and all source of information, positive information was provided through Wall-size television screens. Meanwhile, a war was coming but no one thinks will affect them in anyway.

Guy Montag, a fireman, who enjoyed burning books and the houses of their owners, however, he begins to question their value, and secretly steals and hides them. he figured that books make him think and question his whole life, his job, his love for his wife, the world..
Montag wonders why books are thought to be so dangerous and why some people are so loyal to them. What power lies in books? , he get so obsessed about it all, trying to find answers, he finds himself on the other side of the law willing to risk everything to save the books he once was paid to burn. finally joining a group of intellectuals who dedicate themselves to build a literate and cultural society after the war.

I enjoyed this book so very much, it makes you think, the kind of book Guy Montag definitely had to burn, but well! 1984 is still my favorite dystobian fiction.

Of Mice and Men

Of Mice and Men - John Steinbeck I really enjoyed this book, it was amazing and The characters were impressive.
i cried at the end, i didn't at all expect that ending.

Anna Karenina

Anna Karenina - Alymer Maude, Louise Maude, Leo Tolstoy i finished this over a long period of time, There’s something about Russian Literature and length.
But it was masterfully written and mesmerising. Once I have started the novel, I was transported into a complex world that awed me and broke my heart.

Anna, the main character, left a cold marriage with the successful man (Alexey Alexandrovitch) for a passionate affair with a young army officer (Count Vronsky) whom she loved so much and had a child with him, that separated her from the son she had with her husband, she was sad but she was also happy, and after fell into guilt, jealousy, and finally death.
we also follow the stories of Anna's brother Stiva, and his wife Dolly, Dolly's sister Kitty and her amazing husband Levin.
reading this you'd learn a lot about love and about life.

I LOVED this book. Tolstoy is a genius.

Jacob's Room

Jacob's Room - Virginia Woolf, Susan Gallagher Everyone wants to know who Jacob is, and everyone has an opinion on him.
There’s little plot in Jacob’s Room, it's more of a character study, The story is like following Jacob around a series of impressions of this or that observer (his mother, his lovers and his friends), the place being this or that place and time, his childhood, his college days at Cambridge and his travels, ending with his death in WWI.

i enjoyed it, Virginia's style of writing is Beautiful! ♥

Memoirs of a Geisha

Memoirs of a Geisha - Arthur Golden a mesmerising read from start to finish, I did enjoy it, very.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - J.K. Rowling, Mary GrandPré one of the greatest fantasy fiction series ever written ♥

The Lost Symbol

The Lost Symbol - Dan Brown Absolutely loved this book.
There were a lot of interesting historical facts, symbols interpretations, the integration of art and architecture. I loved it.

Love in the Time of Cholera

Love in the Time of Cholera - Gabriel García Márquez, Edith Grossman it’s not a love story at all. It’s a story about an obsession and lust disguised as love.

in short, Florentino Ariza *falls in love* with Fermina Daza (from a distance), they exchange some letters and dried flowers, Fermina suddenly breaks away and marries a promising young doctor and they are happy. Florentino proceeds to have countless affairs (including a teenager while he was in his seventies !!! the girl was 14 years old !!!!!!! and he was meant to be the guardian of and who kills herself because of him, "this is really creppy and fucked up!!") while continuing to have a crazy obsession for Fermina. Fifty years later, her husband dies. Florentino shows up to tell her that he still Loves her, she rejects him, after a couple of years she falls for him, they runaway together and he is happy. The end

I did not find Florentino Ariza's lifelong devotion to Fermina Daza to be romantic at all, it was pathetic. I found all of major characters unlikable but i hated Florentino the most, a total creep!
and the book excused too much horrible behaviour all in the name of "love.", it annoyed and irritated me!

Brave New World

Brave New World - Aldous Huxley One of those books that everyone needs to read.
This was a book I had been wanting and highly interested to read since I read 1984 by George Orwell.
~ Imagine a world without art, literature and history , without religion and science, without love, without war, crime, pain or sadness, and without individual thoughts.
Humans are grown inside bottles, brainwashed and divided into many classes: Alphas, Betas, Gammas, Deltas, and Epsilons.
Alphas are smart, strong and tall. Epsilons are stupid, ugly and short.
Sex is casual and Everyone belongs to everyone else.
God isn't needed.
Everyone is Happy, and when feeling low, one should take some Soma (a recreational drug) to escape reality and feel better.
It is a bit disturbing and terrifying! It seems we are getting closer and closer to the kind of "happy life" that Huxley pictured in his novel.

~ Along with 1984, i highly recommend this book.

The Forty Rules of Love

The Forty Rules of Love - Elif Shafak Forty Rules of Love by Elif Shafak was not one of those books which I would usually have picked up myself if not for the book club read, but now i'am so glad it was picked and that i had the chance to read it.
Each and every word is a quotation, worthy of sharing to the world.
This is a book with a story within a story and Each chapter is told from the view point of one of its many characters.
~ Ella Rubinstein is a married woman with 3 children, a peaceful life, but something is missing in her life and her relationship with her husband. She takes a job as a reader and her first assignment is to read and review a novel by an author called, Aziz Z. Zahara.
~ the story of the book 'Sweet Blasphemy' Ella Reads is about the Sufi Rumi, whose life changed completely when he meets the dervish Shams of Tabriz and his forty rules of love.
Rumi and Shams become great companions, almost inseparable, and this upsets those close to Rumi.
~ Ella decides to find out more about the author and her life will never be the same again after that.

I enjoyed reading this book ♥ it was really amazing.

Eveline

Eveline - James Joyce a story of a young woman who has to choose between duty to her family and the potential for a better life abroad with her lover.

Three Questions

Three Questions - Leo Tolstoy A king searching to find how he can learn to do the right thing at the right time, who were the right people to listen to, and what was the most important thing to do.
The answer comes to him in a very surprising way.

The Idiot

The Idiot - Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Constance Garnett, Joseph Frank, Anna Brailovsky Finally !!! I read this over such a long period of time, but i really enjoyed it !
This book was Clever, full of ideas, and philosophies. Dostoevsky's characters and thoughts are very fascinating. one of the greatest books ever written, I'am Sure.
in short, the story is about The idiot, a very kind but selfless, naive man, and his doomed attempt to fit into society, love and life.
Dostoyevsky is a genius ♥
I highly recommend this book without hesitation. READ IT !

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone - J.K. Rowling, Mary GrandPré After this re-read, I actually Cried when I finished. ♥
